Peter - well done! This website Wilmslow Birders (how did I make it bold - when you are doing a post or reply you will see the Wikidot syntax box above - use the B - first lesson over) has a very restricted membership (2 for the forseeable future) but when I spot things in the input which are worth developing further I invite the appropriate member to join me. If you look at Our Osprey Story, which you can find by going to Did You See? module on the top navigation bar and looking through the A to Z list, you can see an example of this. So at present you cannot join this website.

What you can do is join the other members (fairly soon) in the Wilmslow Birders - WGBG website. As you say "you are not in a position yet to edit or add to Peter's Page without assistance". All previous members have been in this position which is why I have developed a Private Website in which you can gain enough experience to get you started. The website can be seen by clicking on http://bbdg.wikidot.com.

I will ask Wikidot to send you an invitation to join. The website is, I hope, self explanatory. I am in the process of putting some things in it to meet your particular needs.

Happy clicking, Bob.

Bob, Per your advice I have now joined Wikidot with the name phalarope and now formally apply to join the website. Let me know if that is OK. Whilst I do not intend to try to edit Peter's pages just yet (if ever without your assistance/vetting!), I need to set up the possibility for the future. Thanks for your assistance so far. Peter

Hello Ray - thank you for visiting our website. Sorry I don't know the woodworker who attends the Artisan Market. One of our members (Peter) sometimes brings bird boxes for sale when he attends our Indoor Meetings. If you are able to attend our next meeting on Friday 19th October and you make yourself known to Judith or Barbara they will be pleased to introduce you to Peter if he is present. Otherwise there are members who have garden bird boxes with and without cameras who may be able to help you.

I understand that there is a local Wilmslow woodworker (may be the one who attends the Artisan Market) who makes Bird boxes. Can you point me in the right direction, please, to buy one. (Not prepared to buy a Chinese imported one with incorrect sized hole for a garden bird.)

Re - your Bird ID request - please see new entry on Nelson's Page.

Bob.

When we went to the Point there were hundreds of these birds in the area. Not sure what they were. Any idea? Should have zoomed in for a better ID. These pictures are a blowup from a far away shot. IMG 5198 Versions 2 &3.

Bob-
We have never found where they nest. We have seen many in a particular group of trees in the SH Bird Sanctuary and in trees or on pilings near the Wetlands Institute. They probably nest in trees in the Sanctuary and marshes near the Wetlands, but we've never spotted one.

Nelson - further thoughts - the YCNH page led me to think about a follow up BCNH page. You probably have enough images of the Black-crowned species to do it. They obviously both have individual niches in habitats close to you - it would be good to know how far apart they are and whether you are aware of any subtle differences which enable them to live in fairly close proximity.

Night Herons. by GruffalumpGruffalump, 24 Sep 2012 17:43

Nelson - checked out all the images - they all came through fine - very sharp and really stunning photographs. I will look at incorporating some into Nelson's Page on your behalf.

Re: Stone Harbor birds. by GruffalumpGruffalump, 18 Sep 2012 07:04

Update on Stone Harbor birds.

Part.1 is more about the Double-crested Cormorants - Got the boat back in the water after repairs. Found these regal cormorants posing on a "no wake" buoy. IMG 5008, 5013, 5022.

Part 2 is an update on the Osprey - Went to Nest 1…it was empty….but close by was this adolescent, turned adult (check out his eye color), Notice the band on his leg. He has his catch of the day!! IMG 5031.

Part 3 is about the Great Egret we found on the way to Nest-1. Beautiful bird. IMG 5070, 5077.

Part 4 is about Herons…again, on our way to Nest-1 to check out the Ospreys, we found these Herons in back of the old "lumber yard", which are now multiple condos. Doesn't stop them from visiting. IMG 5043, 5044, 5054, 5122.

Hi Nelson
What stunning pictures you've been sending lately; I just loved the Osprey sequences. The photos taken at Leaming's Run brought back the lovely afternoon we spent there with you. The picture you took with the gardens and butterflies would make a very interesting and absorbing jigsaw! Well, I've poured over the picture and have finally found three; 2 male Black Swallowtails and 1 Pipevine Swallowtail (I think but am not certain). Could the Pipevine be a Spicebush?
Our regards to Joanne.

Nelson - the little trick your friend Ernie suggested would appear to have solved the problem. Your latest batch of photographs all came in jpg format and all associated data was accessible. Well done!

JPEG versus BMP. by GruffalumpGruffalump, 21 Aug 2012 06:19

Bob-
Check out Nelson's Page. Haven't caught on to picture placement as yet. Wasn't watching the time on my last attempt.

Yes, I use Safari as my browser.

Still working on JPEG vs bmp.
Nelson

Hi Nelson - sorry it did not work for you. There is nothing more annoying than working for ages and then loosing it all - I know - it happened to me as well. Thoughts follow:-

1. I notice you are using various website addresses - Wikidot will only recognise the one you registered with.
2. Having said that you obviously uploaded image files so you must have been signed on OK then. 3. Monitoring system clearly shows you on Nelson's Page for quite long periods of time on 18th Aug but it does not show your activity. It does not show you on any other pages. 4. Shows you working with Verizon using Safari browser - is that the one you always use? - Some browsers operate differently.

When ever you start to edit a page the system locks the page for you for 15 minutes. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you should see a running count-down starting at 900 seconds. If you exceed the 15 mins it should warn you but you may have missed the warning.

As you know "Your Pages" is a new venture for me - I will give some thought to how best to present Nelson's Page to make it easy to add things to it. Meanwhile I have just put "Start Here" at the top of your page.

Suggestions:-

Always check you are signed on before you click on edit.
Do a save as soon when you have put a few words in to make sure all is OK. Keep an eye on your page lock time 900 secs count down.

Final thought - you are the first person I have had operating as a moderator - this should not have caused a problem but please put a few words in on Nelson's Page as soon as you can so that I can check.

Bob

Bob-
Added something about hummingbirds on Nelson's Page. Not very proficient at this yet. Need some constructive criticism from you. Thanks, Nelson

Bob-
Worked several hours on Hummingbirds. After editing and Previewing I clicked Save and closed the webpage. Reopened the webpage and nothing was there on hummingbirds. What did I do wrong…lost everything!! N

Your idea of a separate page for the Guild members could work very well. I just think that it is important to have all the links together in one place somewhere. Having them on the Welcome page works well enough but there will always be the impatient few who bypass that page and head straight for the main content. I notice that the previous posting on the feedback forum was in December last year, so as you say it may take some time to attract any more comments.

Liked the ospreys. I have now seen (and photographed!) ospreys on 4 continents - Europe, North America, Africa, and Asia. My photo from Costa Rica is showing its age. That was pre-Canon 300mm f4 L days and it's obviously not quite as sharp as the photos I would hope to get these days, or as sharp as Nelson's photos. Still, not too bad.

Robert
